P.S./I.S. 268 Mission Statement
The mission of P.S./I.S.268Q is to provide a nurturing environment for children, to inspire in our students a love of learning and appreciation of the Arts. To foster high self-esteem and respect for others while appreciating cultural diversity.
At P.S. /I.S. 268 we encourage respect and responsibility to self and others as well as encourage a love of learning.
We endeavor to instill qualities that create character and concern for the world around us.
It is our belief that students learn best in an environment that recognizes their interests, embraces cultural diversity and teaches to diverse learning abilities.

School Hours & Dismissal procedure
Breakfast:
7:45 AM
NO CHILDREN WILL BE PERMITTED IN BUILDING BEFORE 7:45 AM
Arrival time:
8:00 AM-8:19 AM
MORNING ARRIVAL:
Grades K-2: Students will be picked up by their teacher in the Cafeteria.
Grades 3-5: Students will be picked up by their teacher in the Auditorium.
Grades 6-8: Students will be picked up by their teacher from the Gymnasium.
Homeroom:
8:20 AM-8:23 AM
If your child is NOT in homeroom at 8:20 they will be marked absent and you will receive an automated phone call.
If your child arrives LATE (8:20AM) please advise your child to receive a late pass from the main office so that their attendance can be adjusted in time to prevent an "absent" call.
Dismissal :
Grades K-2: Students will be dismissed from the cafeteria
Grades 3-4: Side entrance A on 175th Street. Parents please do not block the doorway
Grades 5-8: Side entrance B on 176th Street
Please wait outside the gate until your child's class is brought out of the building by the teacher for dismissal.
There are NO EXCEPTIONS. PLEASE PREPARE TO PICK UP YOUR CHILD ON TIME.
Instruction takes place until dismissal;
unless there is an emergency
Please keep early pick up* of your child to a minimum,
YOUR CHILD will thank you.
*REQUEST FOR (EARLY ) PICKUP AFTER 2:15PM MUST WAIT FOR REGULAR DISMISSAL AT 2:40 PM.*
PLEASE NOTE your child will be called to the office when you ARRIVE in the office for pick up, NOT BEFORE.

ATTENDANCE POLICY
Attendance at PS/IS 268 Q is very important to your child's progress at school. We encourage our students to be in attendance everyday by celebrating those who have 90% or greater attendance during our Student achievement assemblies. Please make sure your child is in attendance everyday.
We realize that unforeseen events may occur that result in absences from school however please note, according to the Chancellors Regulations, the only excused absences from school are :
- illness,
- death in the family,
- religious observance,
- weather emergency
Steps to follow when absent from school:
- Parent or guardian writes a letter giving the first and last name of student, Class/ homeroom, date, reason for, and days of absence.
- Student must give the letter to the teacher upon returning to the school.
- A doctor’s note must accompany the parent’s note if the student has been absent three or more consecutive days and has received medical care.
- Students absent an excessive number of days will receive an “NC” (no credit) in their subject classes and will be referred to the Attendance officer for follow up.
Early Pick-up:
Frequent early pick-ups from school lead to missed instruction and disruption of class. We kindly ask that you plan appointments and other commitments to after school hours.
Please help us to provide an uninterrupted, productive learning environment for all of our students by keeping them in school for the full day-.8:20AM-2:40PM.

Protocol for Visitors
Upon entry to a Department of Education building, all visitor's must sign in and show photo identification to the Safety Agent. At which point you will be directed to the Main Office for all inquiries.
All visitor's MUST receive a visitor pass/sticker if you are meeting for an appointment or visiting in our school building for an extended amount of time.

Cell Phone Policy-UPDATED!!
In response to Chancellor’s regulation A-413, which governs the use of cell phones, computing devices and portable music and entertainment systems on school property, PS/IS 268 Q has opted for a school-based policy for the use of such devices on school property.
PS/IS 268’s policy will be as follows:
The use of cell phones, smart watches computing devices, portable music and entertainment systems, and other electronic devices are NOT ALLOWED during the school day. Students are allowed to bring these devices to school but they must be secured in designated cell phone lockers until the end of day.
UPDATED Department of Education POLICY-Chancellor's Regulation: A-413
A. Students may not use personal internet-enabled electronic devices during the school day.
B. Students may be permitted to use internet-enabled electronic devices that are school-provided during the school day except as set forth in II D – II F below.
C. Students may be permitted to use non-internet enabled electronic devices during the school day except as set forth in II D – II F below.
D. Electronic devices may not be used during the administration of any school quiz, test or examination2 unless such use has been explicitly authorized by the school or is contained in an Individualized Education Program (“IEP”) or Section 504
Accommodation Plan (“504 Plan”).
E. Electronic devices may not be turned on or used during school fire drills or other emergency preparedness exercises.
F. Electronic devices may not be used in locker rooms or bathrooms.
